This should be renamed as "Self-injuries related with weapons thread".

I scratched my hand while firing a Makarov.

Gunmaster45 07-01-2010 11:40 PM

If we are listing injuries from weapons I can list plenty.

When shooting a Walther G22 bullpup .22 rifle, my dad assembled it in the left-handed configuration because it can be assembled both ways, and after the difficulty it gave it him assembling (it's worse than a bb gun) he finally got it together this way. Because the left-handed configuration has the bolt on the left side of the stock, when I shouldered it to fire, the bolt hit my chin, gashed it open and felt like a punch. Even when he put it back to right handed configuration I shot it with one hand, extended away from my face. Still have the scar.

When I was loading an Automag Mark V .50 AE, the decocking lever was down and the slide was locked back. I released the slide and the level gashed the back of my thumb open. Plus when I shot it the rear sight screw blew off and cut my forehead. That gun must have hated me.

Shooting my dad's Sweet 16 Browning A5 with a scope, I rested it wrong because my winter jacket was too heavy to realise, and when I fired, it slipped and the scope hit me between the eyes. Common injury apparantly.

Oh, and countless hammer bites from old M1911s and slide bites from Walther PPKs. :D

S&Wshooter 07-01-2010 11:46 PM

My Piece-O'-Crap High Standard cut my hand open, I burned my hand with my 686 once (gas burned the shit out of me because my hand was too close to the cylinder gap), a .30-30 almost tore my arm out of the socket (4 lb gun + 6 yr old shooter + heavy recoil= PAIN!), Mosin Nagant M44 bruised my shoulder after I fired 15 rnds (only stopping to reload)

Gunmaster45 07-01-2010 11:56 PM

Once I fired an over-and-under 12 gauge shotgun and both barrels fired at once. Bruised my shoulder pretty bad.

The funny thing is I'm almost notorious amongst the gun owners who know me (even my dad) as being able to shrug off some mean recoil.

For example two instances:

1. I was at a friend's house and he had guns to shoot. The "big" gun of theirs was a .444 Marlin 336 lever action. I shoulder it and expect it to hurt, and fire it. I then turn to my friend's dad and ask, "That's it?" He laughed.

2. After firing a 10 Gauge twice, my dad askes, "Had enough?" I replied, "Got anymore?" haha. He had buckshot left, which kicks more. Shot four of those as well, no problem.

My love of guns overwhelms my discomfort of pain. :)

My uncle told me once about how one of his buddies got hit by a ricochet from an SKS. I think the guy lived, but I can't really remember

I don't know where I'd get them or how I'd be able to hold one in each hand (since they're heavy as hell) but if I see them I shall! ;)

On my soldier qual course I saw a guy grab a C6 barrel to change it - not the handle, the barrel. He didn't do that twice.

I burned my face with a 16 gauge shotgunīs powder while hunting partridges. Some minutes later, I looked like this guy (without grenade and Koran):

I'm gonna go with lucky/astronomical, just off the sound alone.

I'd require a couple changes of clean underwear after that one, too.

Nyles 07-03-2010 04:11 AM

I don't think I buy it. I've seen alot of ricochets on machine gun ranges, and they go up, not back.

Dude, you're on IMFDB. We are the most detailed oriented guys on the PLANET. You're wearing a SKI MASK, not a BALACLAVA. Get it right! ;)

Also, I've been hit by ricochets at a canyon in the San Bernadino mountains (a fav spot for shooters, but no longer used by casual shooters since the Sheriff's dept closed it down), but I still have a 9mm and a .308 Win that hit me in the lower back and lower leg respectively. The ricochets lost all their kinetic power, but it still hurt like hell. Kinda like someone shooting a slingshot at your body with a small rock at point blank range. Not enough to break the skin but enough to make a big welt! And no, I was NOT the shooter. I was just an observer.

A friend was hit by a .22 in his hand wtihout injures, it looked like he didnīt loaded his Bersa with hollow point bullets.

PersonOfInterest 07-05-2010 06:08 AM

Just getting smacked by brass hurts. I can't imagine what a proper ricochet feels like.
