When the whole gun scare dies down and prices drop, I do plan on getting an AR-15.

JCordell, I think there is an interesting correlation to be had here.

You don't participate in the "long arm sports" and are a police officer, who is primarily armed with a pistol

Makes sense that you would gravitate towards pistols.

I, on the other hand, am an avid hunter and shot skeet competitively in middle and high school. Also, I shot both small bore and air rifle competitively in high school.

In the military, I was issued both an M-4A1 and a Beretta. Obviously, I used the M-4A1 more.

And I gravitate more towards shotguns and rifles. Though now, my wish list is primarily rifle centered, and old hunting rifles at that: a Savage 110 in .25-06, a pre '64 Model 70 in 7mm-08, and a Remington 600 in 6mm Remington. That being said, those rifles are desired because I pretty muich have all the shotguns I want. Minus either an Ithaca '37 in riot configuration or a Remington 870 police magnum with wood furniture.

That's a good point as well. There are a couple rifles that I wouldn't mind owning tough. A Savage 99 in 300 Savage and a Remington Model 8 or 81 Woodsmaster (preferably in 35 Remington) rifle would make a nice addition to my collection. No idea why. I just like the look of those particular models. Go figure but that's what collecting often involves. More about esthetics and history rather than practicality or designs.
