Martini-Henry is correct!

Nyles 02-27-2011 09:54 PM

Wow, I thought for sure that would be a Turkish Peabody-Martini 1874. I'm dissapointed!

ersoz 02-27-2011 10:53 PM

They are identical Nyles, Save for the stock plate. We owe the Peabody rifle to the Brits BTW. They refused to sell enfields to us Turks. So we asked Mr Peabody of Rhode Island to produce Martini-Henry rifles for us. And If I'm not mistaken, without a proper license.
I would have loved to see Mr Peabody's face when he received the order for an entire Ottoman Army. About 600.000 rifles.

These rifles surface here every now and then.:)

Nyles 02-27-2011 11:49 PM

Well, Peabody didn't have the liscence to produce Martini rifles, but Mr. Martini was already infringing Peabody's patent - a Martini is just a Peabody with an internal lock. Switzerland never used to recognize foreign patents, and from what I understand the whole affair is what changed that.

ersoz 02-28-2011 09:20 PM

So.. Shall we continue?

Mr K9870's turn.

This rifle may have more than one make/model name.

Extra points to those who can identify the scope.

funkychinaman 03-01-2011 04:12 AM

Rifle, .303 Pattern 1914 with Winchester A5.

funkychinaman 03-01-2011 04:13 AM

Once again, I pass.

Same here. I've already browsed through more ugly late 19th century/early 20th century European revolvers that any man should have to see.

ersoz 03-02-2011 07:06 PM

I've seen every revolver with octagon barrel and checkered grip with lanyard ring.

Spades of Columbia 03-02-2011 08:09 PM

Is it a Harrington & Richardson

ersoz 03-02-2011 08:22 PM

Nope.
It looks like a Beaumont-Adams.

If you got one, go ahead.

ersoz 03-02-2011 10:59 PM

Well...I've got one and it is not your everyday rifle.

S&Wshooter 03-02-2011 11:10 PM

I recognize about half these guns, including the rifle above, but I cannot for the life of me remember what they are. Damn my horrible memory!

ersoz 03-02-2011 11:19 PM

About the Tranter Model 1878 Revolver.

It appears this model was specifically designed and produced for British officers in 1878 to be used during Boer war.

Here's a link to a nice example for sale with detail pictures:

Sorry...i like to use real books and the pics in books arnt always HD quality...i thought google was a cheat?

Spades of Columbia 03-03-2011 03:50 PM

Is it some kind of falling block action with double set triggers?...Like some sort of German Buchel-Meister Schuetzen Rifle? Well either way i think it is Germen and it is a Schuetzen style target rifle most likely in a 8.15x46R.

ersoz 03-03-2011 04:14 PM

I consider the internet as another source. Books being my number 1 source.

I already said it was a German rifle...maybe a C.A. Fischer & Sohn...or maybe German System Aydt Single Shot Schuetzen Rifle.

ersoz 03-03-2011 06:22 PM

Your turn. And I just saw that you "edited" your message.

funkychinaman 03-03-2011 07:10 PM

Well...before the internet, people use to put information down on paper...and then they organized it by putting those pages in things called books...so really old guns and gun designs are features in these so called books.
